The World Bank changed its gold benchmark in June 2025: recent months average daily spot prices; earlier months use the London afternoon-fixing series described in the workbook. Treat comparisons across this boundary with that methodology change in mind. The archive is not adjusted for inflation.

Read gold in Japanese yen per gram and compare the international reference with Japanese dealers’ separate tax-inclusive selling and buying quotations.
The Japan dashboard expresses international spot gold in JPY. It is a metal reference, while a Japanese bullion dealer’s counter price is an offer with its own tax, spread and transaction conditions. A difference between the two should be examined through those components before it is interpreted as a market discrepancy.
For example, TANAKA’s published price page distinguishes retail selling and retail buying prices, labels them tax-inclusive and states that the metal prices are per gram. It also notes excluded small-bar charges or commissions. Those are that dealer’s own published terms; this website does not claim to reproduce TANAKA’s executable offer.
Compare the complete payable price of a bar, not only the per-gram headline. TANAKA’s transaction-fee page explains separate charges for smaller bullion quantities and different methods for purchase and sale fees. Check the current schedule for the exact product and transaction. A 10-gram calculation in the dashboard should not be treated as a dealer’s all-inclusive price for a packaged 10-gram bar.
Before selling several bars, ask whether the buyer applies a charge to each item or to the combined accepted weight. Keep brand, serial and packaging information available because the acceptance process may depend on the product. The useful comparison is the total you receive after the stated charges, measured against the same gold quantity.
Japan Mint’s certification information explains fineness markings in parts per thousand. A 750 fineness corresponds mathematically to 18K. For a K18 jewellery item, use the weight of its gold alloy and the 75% fraction; do not value all its weight at the pure-gold rate. Stones and other components should be identified separately.
A fineness mark helps describe the material, while a dealer’s buying offer determines the commercial transaction. Gold jewellery, bullion and a commemorative coin may require different assessments. Check the product description before applying a generic per-gram calculation to a collectible or mixed-material object.
The city entries share the national JPY reference. Ask local shops for quotations that use the same tax basis and the same transaction side. Comparing one seller’s tax-inclusive retail price with another buyer’s pretax reference would produce an artificial difference.
For historical comparisons, align the yen exchange basis and source timestamp. The JPY reference can change differently from USD gold because the currency conversion also moves. The chart describes the chosen series, not the realised return on a particular bar purchase after fees and resale terms.
The gold transaction-charge guide helps compare a yen headline with the complete bar cost. The USD gold page supplies the corresponding international-currency context.
No. The dashboard uses an international JPY spot equivalent. TANAKA publishes its own selling and buying quotations with defined tax and fee treatment. Use that dealer’s current offer when evaluating a transaction with it.
The selling price is what the dealer quotes when you buy; the buying price applies when the dealer buys from you. Match the transaction side, product and time before comparing figures. The difference can be larger after separate charges are included.
Check the label. TANAKA’s published table explicitly identifies its displayed selling and buying prices as tax-inclusive. That example should not be extended to every quotation; confirm the tax basis of the actual seller’s offer.
A separate product or transaction charge can apply. TANAKA’s fee guidance describes fees for small bullion quantities. Request the complete amount for the exact bar size rather than assuming the headline metal rate includes every charge.
Yes. TANAKA’s published schedule explains different purchase and sale charging methods. Check the current rules for your transaction, especially when several small bars are involved, and compare final proceeds rather than a single per-gram figure.
It denotes 18-karat gold, with a nominal gold fraction of 18/24 or 75%. Apply that fraction to the gold-alloy weight for a metal reference. A K18 description does not value attached stones or establish the dealer’s complete resale offer.
Japan Mint explains markings using parts per thousand. A 750 value corresponds to 75% gold, the same mathematical fraction as 18K. Read the complete mark and item specification; the dashboard cannot inspect or authenticate the physical article.
The listed locations use one national JPY reference. Compare actual local offers with the same bar or jewellery specification and tax basis. A city row is a comparison aid and does not imply a separately collected dealer price.
The JPY result includes a currency conversion. A change in the yen per US dollar can add to or offset the metal’s dollar movement. Use matched timestamps and the same reference series before comparing the two percentage changes.
No. Use the product’s specified gold weight or fine-gold content. A sealed package can help identify the item, but its plastic, paper or case does not add gold. The calculator should use the metal quantity relevant to the quotation.
A gram calculation gives a metal reference when the specification is known. A commemorative issue can have separate condition or collectible value. Obtain a product-specific offer before equating its sale price with that of an ordinary bar.
Keep the item identification, weight, fineness, purchase date, tax-inclusive amount and separate charges. At resale, record the accepted weight and net proceeds. Those figures describe your transaction more accurately than the movement of a general gold chart.
