The World Bank changed its gold benchmark in June 2025: recent months average daily spot prices; earlier months use the London afternoon-fixing series described in the workbook. Treat comparisons across this boundary with that methodology change in mind. The archive is not adjusted for inflation.

Read the euro gold reference alongside French fineness marks, the terms of a rachat d’or offer and the distinction between metal and collectible value.
For a French jewellery comparison, identify the gold fineness, or titre, before applying a per-gram price. An 18-carat article corresponds to 750 thousandths, so its gold fraction is 75%. The dashboard’s pure-gold reference needs to be adjusted for that composition when the weight is the total gold-alloy weight. Stones and other materials need separate treatment.
French Customs guidance explains how fineness and precious-metal marks help consumers interpret an article’s composition. A poinçon relates to the declared precious-metal content and the applicable marking system. It does not determine the item’s retail price, authenticate an unrelated website or guarantee the price someone will pay for the article later.
Gold resale is easier to assess when the buyer records the item, weight, fineness and final amount. The DGCCRF’s resale guidance explains the importance of displayed buying information, weighing before the consumer and a written contract. Ask the buyer to distinguish the metal calculation from any separate value assigned to stones or a collectible object.
For a signed jewellery piece or a collectible coin, a scrap offer may leave out an important part of the object’s market value. Consider a product-specific assessment before agreeing to melting. Keep photographs and purchase or provenance records that help identify what is being valued. A historical gold chart provides context, but it cannot inspect those characteristics.
The city grid gives the same international euro reference for Paris, Lyon, Marseille and the other listed locations. When comparing local offers, ask for the same transaction side: the price to buy a finished item is different from the amount a professional offers to buy it from you. Match weight, fineness and quotation time before comparing the headline figures.
Small articles require careful interpretation of marks. French Customs describes exemptions from the guarantee hallmark for gold items below the specified 3-gram threshold. An exemption from that particular mark is not evidence that an article has no gold; equally, a price calculator cannot establish the composition of an unverified item. Resolve the product identification with the seller or an appropriate testing service.
Finally, compare the complete transaction amount. A gold bar premium, a jewellery making charge, a resale deduction and a coin’s collector premium are different costs. Keeping them distinct produces a more useful comparison than treating every difference from spot as a change in the French gold market.
The purchase and resale charge guide helps organise a written offer. For an Italian article, the Italy page explains the maker-identification format.
It means 75% gold by mass, equivalent to 18 carat. French Customs explains this fineness notation. Multiply the net gold-alloy weight by 0.75 for its fine-gold quantity before comparing it with a pure-gold per-gram reference.
It concerns the article’s composition under the relevant marking system. A price also reflects the product and the transaction terms. A hallmark does not prescribe a universal buying or selling amount and does not replace comparing complete written offers.
French Customs guidance describes an exemption for gold articles below 3 grams, with other requirements remaining relevant. Check the exact item and applicable rules. The absence of this particular mark should not be interpreted using weight or appearance alone.
DGCCRF guidance covers weighing in the consumer’s presence and a written contract identifying the transaction. Ask for weight, fineness, unit price and final amount to be understandable before signing, and retain your copy of the documents.
The DGCCRF guidance describes a 48-hour withdrawal right for covered precious-metal purchase contracts, with an exception for investment-gold transactions. Confirm the product and contract category; do not assume the same rule applies to every gold deal.
Use the specification for the exact coin to establish its fine-gold content, then consider condition, issue and collectibility separately. A generic gold calculation supplies a metal reference, not a numismatic appraisal or a guaranteed offer for the coin.
Obtain an item-specific assessment first if the signature, design, stones or history may matter. A metal-only offer does not measure those features. Clarify whether any testing or removal process is destructive before authorising it.
Check whether each rate refers to pure gold or a particular alloy, and whether the offer has quantity or condition requirements. Request a final payable amount for the same lot. An “up to” headline is not necessarily the rate applied to your items.
It is the shared EUR metal reference used by the dashboard. A shop’s complete price can include its own product premium and charges. Request the article’s weight, fineness and total offer before comparing it with the displayed city entry.
Both descriptions correspond to a nominal 75% gold fraction. Compare the same net gold-alloy weight and quotation time, then account for the actual product and transaction terms. Matching purity does not mean two finished articles have the same commercial value.
It can show historical context, but today’s offer needs a current quotation. Check the date and whether the archive is monthly or daily. A monthly average is not a price at which a buyer necessarily traded on a particular day.
Keep the purchase invoice, item description, weight, purity information, photographs and any appraisal. Record the new offer’s date and deductions separately. That allows a comparison of the actual transaction amounts rather than relying on remembered spot prices.
